It was extremely disappointing that there was absolutely no television coverage of one of the best elements of our Carnival—the Children’s Parade of the Bands on Carnival Saturday.
This has sent a clear message to our children that their participation in mas is of no concern whatsoever, to our major television decision makers, advertisers and the National Carnival Commission.
Yet one television had the audacity to show, over many days, a series of inane repetitions of one or two earlier fetes to which the station was invited.
On the other hand, congratulations must go out to Errol Fabien and the staff of Gayelle The Channel, for bringing live coverage of the Red Cross Children’s Carnival on January 30.
I only briefly glimpsed the show on television (when Rosalind Gabriel’s band was on) but was stunned by the beauty and artistry of the costumes.
Our children continue to lead the way for Carnival.
It is clear to me that the world needs to see our children’s mas. But, until we understand how to properly market our country, we will be condemned to the rubbish that our television producers choose to show.
