The words “thieving and corruption” ought not to be used loosely when it comes to politics and politicians, as their wanton use runs the risk of rendering them meaningless.

During most of our recent election campaigns, corruption and stealing by the ones in charge have been the major election issue. Yet, when the opposing party gets into power, charges and convictions are very rare, if not absent. And the ones against whom these charges of dishonesty are levelled at, congregate with their accusers every Friday in Parliament in jacket and tie calling each other “Honourable.”

What makes matters worse regarding the accusation-flaunting is that each party flock mouth the sentiments of their leaders with conviction and belief as if it is beyond any doubt.

What we may not realise is that by making careless accusations, we are perpetuating the idea that thieves and crooks are met in our society with no real consequence. In this way, we are doing ourselves and our children a disservice.

The result of our resigned attitude toward our elected officials, is that the thieves and the corrupt walk among us, proud and free.
