Even as I write this letter this Father’s Day morning my taps are bone dry, but it is raining cats and dogs, accompanied by thunder and lightning. No doubt some flooding may occur as it has in the past three weeks.
So the obvious question is why do some areas still have no water although the rainy season started 18 days ago in earnest. I have to say some areas because most of the country did not experience water problems during the dry season. In fact, as some put it, “pressure bussing the pipe” while other areas, like mine, suffered and continue to suffer indefinitely.
If this is not blatant discrimination then I don’t know what is. We are beyond frustrated. After a hard day at work we are denied even a shower. We have had to bathe with water from buckets since January 17. While the rest of the country cooks their Father’s Day lunch today we have to eat microwaved food that was cooked last night—as we have been doing for the past six months, since we get no water on Sundays.
I try to call WASA as seldom as possible because the nonsense you are told, as a paying customer can take your blood pressure into dangerous ranges. We continue to promptly pay for a water service we receive less than half of. Is there a water shortage? Who do you turn to for assistance? An attorney? The MP is an absolute waste of time.
The saddest thing is that I have been writing long, researched letters about this issue repeatedly and nothing ever changed.
