With the Carnival season in full swing, YoPro members and guests celebrated the festivities by hosting its very first event for 2016, a Carnival Social, at Donna Chin Lee’s B3 shop at The Normandie, St Ann’s, on January 21.
Loyal YoPro members and guests got together in an intimate affair to learn about the history of T&T Carnival, past, present and the future. Guests were treated to music by DJ Tycoon, cocktails courtesy of B3 and inspiration provided by the YoPro organisation and committee members.
Special guest speakers Desmond Waithe, musical director of the bpTT Renegades and RIPE, and Ray Funk, steelpan and Carnival researcher, shared the very colourful history of the steelpan and provided jovial insight on how to make money from Carnival music outside of the Carnival season.
Waithe offered the audience various renditions of calypsoes of yesteryear as he took young professionals through the history of T&T Carnival and its evolution. After listening to the captivating special guests, attendees were divided into groups to network and brainstorm concept ideas for how to use Carnival to generate money in a recession. YoPros later engaged with the guest speakers, asking questions and had the opportunity to take photos with guests.
“The business of Carnival is forever evolving, and we are honoured that we had the privilege to provide Trinidad and Tobago’s young professionals with the opportunity to connect with seasoned veterans from the Carnival industry,” said Dr Ty Richardson, YoPro Global’s CEO.
“As we kick off the new year, we are excited to continue sharing unique experiences and continuing to provide unconventional networking opportunities for our members.”
YoPro intends to host its Red Velvet Ball on February 25, raising awareness for human trafficking.
