I wish to express my strong condemnation of the unregulated use of fireworks to the detriment of animals, elderly and ill citizens.
I personally experienced this on Old Year’s night as my dog bled profusely as she attempted to escape the unwarranted noise. This sight put a damper on festivities. I call upon the relevant authorities to provide powers to the EMA that will ensure that individuals apply for a noise variation clearly stating location, types and amount of fireworks, time period and estimated intervals of use. This will allow citizens to be aware of and to make the relevant representations for or against these activities.
If not implemented, a second suggestion is the hosting of fireworks festivities in open parks and recreation grounds only, where interested people must inform the corporation who will in turn employ the use of a public address system to inform residents of the proposed activities.
I kindly await urgent discussion and action on unregulated use of fireworks.
