Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy lit up the Coolidge cricket ground with an explosive unbeaten 60 to lead the Windwards Hurricanes to 267 for seven in their 50 overs against the T&T Red Force in their Super50 clash in Antigua last evening.

Incisive pace bowling by Ravi Rampaul had given the T&T Red Force the edge going into the latter stages of the innings, when Sammy joined by Delorn Johnson decided to counterattack and it led to 140 runs coming from the final 15 overs.

The Windwards after losing Devon Smith (6), Johnson Charles (3) and Tyrone Theophile (6) looked in serious trouble but Andre Fletcher with 35 and Sunil Ambris 69 got them back into the game. However by the end of the 35th over, the score stood at 127 for seven with the Red Force in total control. What was to come surprised everyone as the white ball started to fly all over the park. Sammy needed only 36 balls for his 60, which included four fours and five massive sixes. Johnson gave the ball a beating as well to finish unbeaten on 26.

Bowling for T&T, Rampaul ended with 4/43, while Shannon Gabriel took 2/53. Up to press time the T&T Red Force was replying.
