Five more killed in 13-hour period

Five men were murdered in four separate incidents over a 13-hour period starting from Friday night.

A sixth man is currently fighting for his life at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope, after being shot in his face and stomach in another bloody weekend recorded in this country.

The murder toll for the year now stands at 262.

This weekend’s blood bath began around 8.30 pm on Friday in Morvant.

Dead is 26-year-old Akil Eugene.

According to reports, residents of St Francois Valley Road in Morvant, heard gunshots and found Eugene lying in a pool of blood. He was shot once in the back.

Eugene was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he eventually died.

Around 10 pm on Friday in Arima, the second incident occurred.

A group of men were playing cards on the road at Maturita Extension when they were approached by men dressed in dark clothes who grabbed 24-year-old Marvin Peters and a fight began. Peters was shot in his face and stomach.

He was rushed to the Arima Health Facility by his friends before being transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. Peters was warded in a serious condition up to late yesterday.

The shooting is said to be gang related.

The third shooting incident which took place around 3 am yesterday resulted in a double murder. 

Dead are Anthony Lalla, 26, and 23-year-old Idi Farrell. Lalla, of Upper Quarry Drive, Champs Fleurs, and Farrell, of Lemon Drive, Champs Fleurs, were shot dead at an apartment at lower Albert Street, St Joseph.

Lalla and Farrell were found dead on a double decker bunk bed. They both had gunshot wounds to their heads. The killings are believed to be drug related.

The fourth shooting incident took place around 6.30 am.

Shawn Joseph, 29, of Lovell Street, Monte Grande, Tunapuna, was found at the side of the road suffering from gunshot injuries.

He was taken to the EWMSC by his brothers. Joseph died at the hospital. His killing is believed to be drug related.

Around 9.30 am an unidentified man believed to be in his 40s was found dead in Caura. The dead man’s hands were tied behind his back and he was gagged. There was a wound to the left side of his head.

According to reports, a gardener found the body of the man of African descent dressed in a black three-quarter pants and a red white and black jersey lying at the side of the road.

Homicide detectives are continuing investigations into the matter.

This weekend’s killings follows another bloody weekend when four people were murdered over a seven-hour period last week Saturday. (JJ)
