Recently we saw police handcuff and drag to jail Ms Michaeline Wall, a young mother with a physical disability who was fined $2,500 for marijuana possession, which she said she uses medicinally to ease the pain in her feet. We are not ignorant that across the globe, certainly in Canada, marijuana is widely recognised for a host of effective medicinal properties including safe chronic pain relief.
As a human rights question, T&T’s judicial system must tell us whether a person has the right to ingest, in their own body, any substance they deem useful for assisting in cure or management of aliments or disease. Where does such a right end and the state and the medical system or the law to usurp control from a person, over their own body?
Ironically Medical Marijuana Inc is trading on the US stock exchange but in T&T the Government is still holding on to marijuana prescription.
